We’re a group of people living in and around the UK from a whole range of backgrounds. The things that bring us together are a concern regarding the issue of sexual exploitation and the commercial sex trade, illegal or otherwise. Whether we’re passionate 20 somethings, seasoned activists or people who just find ourselves wanting to know more, we believe that the commercial sex trade isn’t something done in private but something that makes a statement about everyone, everywhere. Whether it’s porn, prostitution, people trafficking, the media or various forms of abuse. We all know it’s a heavy subject, but we believe in something better and that’s what we want to make some noise about that, not the bad news.

Keith Mason put together what would become The Seed Network back in April 2009. What you see today is the latest incarnation of the project that started out as a community initiative that quickly evolved in to an exclusively online media platform with a focus on a UK based audience. The aim of the site is create an open venue, a platform showcasing inspiring, entrepreneurial, innovative and iconic initiatives and individuals and their stories when it comes to dealing with one of the greatest wrongs of our time. We want to share these and contribute to a wider understanding of the changing face of activism in this area but also the key issues important to people.

A lot of what inspires us is the international media that exists, highlighting the big issues and giving coverage to goings on we’d otherwise know nothing about. What we’re hoping to contribute to is the growing awareness of the issues that exist in the UK, not as something distinct and separate in our day to day lives but something which people choose to speak out against every time they get out of bed in the morning. We also want to encourage and inspire individuals to become more vocal about the fact that people are worth more than the sex trade would otherwise want to make out. To connect with the issues around them and embody the alternative by giving a voice for those who are leading the way. As The Seed Network develops this is part of our long-term vision, to empower and encourage people to step out in new and innovative ways around the UK.
